Over the last few months, we have approached several business owners to ask them what they struggle with most when it comes to marketing. We received very similar answers from everyone that all boiled down to this: No one was sure what they should be marketing. Those who sell products usually don’t know what about their product to focus on, and those who sell services aren’t sure how they should present those services in an ad. This is actually a fairly common problem for many business owners, including those we work with.
To help our clients when we are preparing to film a video, we ask them quite a few questions that allow us to work together to figure out what exactly they should be marketing and who they should be targeting. If you want to make a video to advertise your business but don’t know where to start, here are some questions to ask yourself that will help you figure it out:
- Who is your target audience?
- What problem does your potential customer have?
- How can you solve this problem for them?
- What makes you different from your competitors?
This last bit isn’t a question, but it’s the most important advice we can give: make everything about the customer, NOT about you. Obviously, most of the questions above are about your product/service, however, you should take the answers you came up with, and then communicate them in a way that is all about the customer. Make your customer feel like the hero of the story, with your product/service acting as their sidekick. It’s all about being relational and humble when trying to sell, especially when making a video to communicate directly to your potential customers and clients.
